Since Throckmorton County was formed from Fannin County in 1858 I felt that the information in this book could be helpful to those using Throckmorton County site. I am transcribing the book so that it will be searchable for information and hopefully easier to find. As I finish each chapter I will link it to this page. Please keep coming back to check out the next chapter. Happy Searching.

PREFATORY
If one should pick up this book expecting to find all of the minor details of important and unimportant events, connected with the history of Fannin County, he may be disappointed for such a work would more than double the size of this. I have done my best however, to reproduce some of the most interesting features of the early history of the county, and to show its present status from every source that might be of value or interest. In this I have received the aid and assistance of several friends, both, in the matter of information, and pecuniarily. To these friends, I return thanks, and offer them every assurance of a lasting gratitude. Much of the present history of the county especially that part of the work describing the towns and the country surrounding them, was written by Judge W. A. Evans of the Bonham News. The series of incidents connected with the early history, were written by the late Judge Simpson.
In compiling this work I have been careful to abstain from superfluous adjectives and exaggerated descriptions, and have dealt with facts just as I found them.
It is not expected, that particularly smart people will be entertained or enlightened, but people with common sense may find something to read.
To the business men of the county who have patronized the effort so liberally, I extend my thanks, and hope they will receive the reward to which their business spirit and enterprise entitles them.
W. A. Carter.
