FINCH, LEWIS,
WARREN posted by Cynthia
Corbett on Wednesday, October 20, 1999

Searching for information on the ancestors of Willie Ira LEWIS who was married
to Henrietta FINCH, b. 12 July 1912, d. 1 Jan 1989, Winters, Runnels, TX.
Both Willie and Henrietta died and were buried in Winters, TX. I know Willie's
family originally came from MS. Do not know where Henrietta's family came
from. Remember hearing a story about how one family or the other came to
TX via covered wagon, don't know when. Also, one of them had siblings whose
names were initials only, not whole names. I believe it was Henrietta's side
of the family. cynthiacorbett@hotmail.com Many thanks.

ASH, BRANHAM,
BURRUS,
CRANDALL, HALE,
JONES, LIGION,
MATHEWS, POOL,
WATSON posted by Sylvia
Sumner on Saturday, November 6, 1999

Pam...in reference to your Runnels County inquiry of C. A. WATSON. In Charlsie
Poe's book "Runnels Is My County" there are two mentions of a Dr. C. A. WATSON.
(1) under the Truitt community, "Doctors ASH and POOL had their offices in
a drugstore owned by E. T. BRANHAM. DR. C. A. WATSON CAME IN 1909, BUT MOVED
TO CREWS TWO YEARS LATER.", and (2) under the Crews community, "Crews had
numerous doctors. Those staying the longest were F. M. HALE, C. A. WATSON,
and R. E. BURRUS. Others were Myrick JONES, CRANDALL, MATHEWS and Zachery
LIGION. An epidemic of typhoid fever started in the area in 1904 and was
not completely under control until 1915. During that time many people died."
These are the only two mentions of Dr. WATSON. This probably isn't much help
to you, but thought you might like to see what Charlsie had in her book about
him..

Would appreciate information on who to contact about the Pumphrey Cemetery,
a little NW of Winters, TX in Runnels Co. Just recently made a visit to West
TX to do some research. I have a great, great aunt and cousin buried in the
Pumphrey cemetery. In another year or so their graves will have cotton planted
on top of them. It is right at the edge of their graves now. In fact there
used to be a grave above my aunts, it has cotton planted on it. What if anything
can be done about this and who took the fence down? Who gave the farmer
permission to use the cemetery to plant cotton on? Would like to have some
answers.
