B.G. Jenkins Is Buried at Tokeen Wednesday
Pioneer Resident Passed Away Unexpectedly
B.G. Jenkins, 77, passed away Tuesday evening at the family home near
Tokeen. In gradual failing health for the past four years, he had enjoyed
reasonably good activity until a year ago. He became critically ill less
than a week ago, but his death came unexpectedly.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock from
the family home in Tokeen and were conducted by the Rev. Chester Wilkerson,
close friend of the Jenkins family for many years and now pastor of the Methodist
Church at Blanket. Burial was in the Tokeen
Cemetery.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Williamson county near Taylor September 1, 1861.
He met and was married to Miss Mollie Hammonds in his native county and the
couple came to this section of Texas sixty years ago locating near Tokeen
which has since been the family home. His companion preceded him in death
in 1910.
He was converted during the early years of his life uniting with the
Methodist Church of which he was an active and loyal worker until his advanced
years forced him to retiremet.
Survivors are three daughters: Mrs. Zula Marshall and Mrs. Bertha Fleming,
both of Lamesa and Mrs. Ola Johnson of McCamey; two daughters preceded their
father in death, one having died in infancy and the other, Mrs. Eva Adams,
passed away in 1931. Five sons, Lester, Sam, and Jess Jenkins, all of the
Tokeen community, Clyde Jenkins of Artesia, New Mexico, and Verna Jenkins
of San Angelo. A half sister, Mrs. Eva Spoonts of Ballinger, also
survive.
Pallbearers were Edgar Jayroe, John Lee, J. M. Burson, Earl Clayton,
Lloyd Wilkerson and R. Boynton.
