Josiah Lindsey & wife, Henrietta "Rittie" Harder Lindsey


Photo of Josiah and Rittie Lindsey Josiah Lindsey (1805 - 1889) married Henrietta (1807 - 1897) in Lauderdale Co AL in 1823.  He moved to TN and served as a Volunteer from that state in the Texas Revolution, with Capt. Love's 1st Brigade, Co. "I", then returned and removed his family to Itawamba Co MS.  In 1844 he served in the Mississippi House of Representatives and in 1868 he came to Texas.

He lived near what is now the town of Elmo & is buried beside his wife & near many of his descendants at College Mound Church.

-- ONE OF ELMO'S OLDEST PERSONS PASS AWAY --

On Sunday last, one of the oldest persons in the community, and perhaps the oldest in the county, passed away. Uncle JOSIAH LINDSEY died Sunday morning at 8 o'clock . The age  was 85 years. Mr. LINDSEY has resided in this county 18 years and leaves a family of grown children and innumerable friends to mourn his death. The deceased has been a member of the primitive Baptist Church and has ever observed those rules, regulations and Bible doctrine that tends to make a true Christian.
