W. D. Irvine served in the Texas Republic Army and with the CSA-Co G 12th TX Cavalry from October 1861-Jan 1862. He was elected Kaufman County Judge in 1862 and was known as "Judge" Irvine the remainder of his life. Obituary - Terrell Daily Transcript, March 24, 1906: Judge William Duncan Irvine died last evening of uremic poisoning. Born September 16, 1821, Tennessee he came to Texas in 1830, settling at San Augustine. Married in 1840 to a daughter of Judge Love, who lived but a little over a year after marriage. One child was born, a boy. He died on the battlefield during the Civil War. Irvine then moved to Nacogdoches County in 1845, then to Kaufman County where his present home is. In 1846 he married Miss Matilda Hearst [sic]. Seven children were born, five of whom are living. Dr W P Irvine of Mabank is the only one living in Kaufman County. Two years following the death of his second wife in 1886, he married Mrs. Sarah Chisholm, widow of Joe Chisholm, both of whom are now dead. In 1872 he married Mrs. Adeline Barr, who survives him. He served in the war for Texas independence attached to General Rusk's command. He served in the Civil War a short while, contracting typhoid fever. He was a private in Capt. H W Kyser's company. He is to be buried in the Pioneer Cemetery where his children lie. WEDDING PORTRAIT ![]() Sarah Matilda Irvine & Albert St. Clair McKinney Daughter of W. D. Irvine & Sarah Matilda Hurst. Born 29 Mar 1864 in Kaufman Co TX, she died 6 Dec 1948 in Cochise Co AZ. He was the son of Joseph & Anna McKinney, born in WI in 1856, he died 1 Dec 1948 in AZ. Matilda & Clair lived briefly in Kaufman County after their marriage, then moved back to Wisconsin. They then came back to Texas and lived on the Quarter Circle Heart Ranch near Clarendon, TX, where he was a foreman. In 1892 they moved to Cheyenne, Indian Territory, then to San Simon, AZ in 1913, where they lived until their deaths.
