Sarah Clark was born in GA on 17 Jan 1826, daughter of William S Clark, Jr. (14 April 1798 - 3 January 1871) & Martha Brodnax Wall (16 May 1801 - 4 Feb 1863). Sarah came to Texas when only 9 years old. Her father moved his wife and 4 children from Georgia, where he had become wealthy from merchandising and farming, to Sabine County, Texas in 1835. In Texas he became a legislator, soldier, merchant, and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. In 1847 Sarah Jane married Lycurgus Edward Griffith, a physician & druggist. They had 8 children and lived in Sabine, Red River, Fannin, Nacogdoches and Kaufman Counties in Texas during their lives. She died in Terrell, TX on 17 May 1887, and is buried in Oakland Cemetery next to her husband all of her children. |
