He was born 21 Feb 1809 in Christian Co KY, son of Robert & Mary Gray.

The family moved to Cole Co MO and he became the Sheriff there and married there on 12 Apr 1835 to Lucinda Miller.

He received 640 acres of land through Mercer's Colony and was residing in Henderson County by 1841.  In 1850 he was elected Sheriff of Henderson County.

Nicholas died prior to 1853 - it is not known where he is buried.
