
| Samuel Cecil Daugherty was born in Pulaski
Co AR 03 Feb 1832 to Rev.
William Henry Daugherty & Sarah Cecil. By 1830 his family
had moved from Morgan Co TN to Pulaski Co AR & they were in Van Buren Co AR by 1840. That is where his mother died in 1842. **NOTE: See his father's page When Sam was 13 his father brought him to Nacogdoches Territory in the newly formed State of Texas. They came with several of his uncles, his grandmother - Sallie Bunch Daugherty, and his brothers & sisters. In 1846 the area where they were living was made Cherokee County & by 1850 Sam, his father, his uncles & brothers had applied for land through Jon Fenton Mercer's Colony. When the Civil War started Sam was mustered into a Confederate Home Guard unit as 1st Sargeant. The unit was called the Mustang Rangers No. 1 & was organized 08 Jul 1861, but they never saw action, although some of John's brothers did enlist into active Confederate units during the war. On 17 May 1861 Sam married Mary Ellen Sanders (1843-1884), daughter of Stephen N Sanders & Telethia Hightower. Mary Ellen's sister, Amelia, married Sam's brother, John in 1866, & her brother, Richard, married Louisa McPeters, the sister of his older brother Nathan's wife-Zilphy McPeters. Sam & Mary Ellen had seven children. He met Mary Ellen when he took a job as a Stockman on her father's ranch. He was enumerated on the Kaufman Co 1860 Census in their household. Sam was a farmer. He died in Kaufman County on 28 Dec 1877 & is buried next to Mary Ellen at Blackland Cemetery near Crandall. Children of Samuel Cecil Daugherty: Frances Ophelia "Fannie" Daugherty (1862-1953)
