Joseph S. Able


The following is a document containg the signatures of Joseph S. Able and David S. Kaufman, dated 22 June 1839.  The document reads:


Joseph Able Document

Republic of Texas            }
 County of Nacogdoches   }
                        Be it remembered that (illeg)
Joseph S Ables and William C Sparks
both of the county and Republic afore-
said have this day entered into
a Bet on a horse race, the
particulars of which are herein
expressed -- Joseph S Ables runs
his horse little Bill against
Wm. C Sparks' horse Rabbit Head
for one thousand dollars in Texas
money, five hundred dollars being
the forfeit agreed on between
the contractory parties - Race to
take place the first Friday
in August  distance six hun-
dred yards and to be run
at the town of Douglas in
the county aforesaid -
  In testimony of all which we
have hereunto set our hands and
affixed our seals this twenty
second day of June A.D. 1839
