There has been some confusion regarding the access of records held in the Kaufman County Court House.  To clear this up, Kathey Hunt asked the County Clerk, Laura Hughes, to clarify the availability and accessibility of the records.

PROBATE

All availabe 1848 - current
Indexed on Computer on 1st floor
Actual records prior to 1935 are in Basement and can be handled - this includes Probate Minutes & Packets

BIRTHS

All available back to 1929 (new law states that birth records are now Sealed for 75 years back)
Old records are Indexed in Books - 1st floor

DEATHS

Death Records are now sealed for 25 years
All records on Indexes available for viewing from earliest until 1979 -
Must be assisted by a clerk to get Death Index Books - 1st floor

MARRIAGES

All available 1848 - current - 1st floor
Those after 1950 are on computer

PROPERTY RECORDS - LAND DEEDS

All available 1848 - current - those after 1960 are on computer - 1st floor
Those older than 1900 are in Basement in books

COMMISSIONERS COURTS MINUTES

1848 - current
Old records prior to 1940 are in basement
Newer records are computerized
