This is a BOND FOR TITLE which I found in my grandparents' possession. JH Clements was my g g grandfather. The original was found folded into a 2x3 square in a pile of what appeared to be unimportant papers.
Know all Men by these Presents that WR Ayers and his wife Mary Ayers of the County of Kaufman and the State of Texas are and held firmly bound to JH Clements of the county of Kaufman and the State of Texas, in the sum of One Hundred & Sixty nine & 25/100 DOLLARS to be paid to said JH Clements executors, administrators and assigns, to the payment whereof we bind ourselves heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents, Sealed with our? Seal . And dated the 14th day of May A.D. 188 95 The Condition of the Above Obligation is, That whereas, the above bound WR Ayres and Mary Ayres has this day sold to the said JH Clements his heirs and assigns forever, the following described Real Estate, situate, lying and being in the County of Kaufman and State of Texas, to wit: Sixty Three acres of land being part of the JD Scott headright Survey patentin to AM Morrow 'and the'(marked out) said Survey contain my 126 acres, and the part here conveyed being the west part of said survey and all of said survey lying on the west side of Cedar Creeek.
