     Mr. S. L. Whittenburg, who lived on Capt. Manion´s place, five miles from town, died Friday, and was buried at Kemp.  He was a young man seventeen years old of good standing and many friends.  He was ill but a few days when the fearful summons came to call his sprit to an unknown world leaving his parents and friends to mourn his untimely death.


Note:  Samuel L. Whittenberg, son of Peter L. and Nancy (Graham) Whittenberg, was born June 29, 1864 in TN and died June 16, 1881 and is buried in Kemp Cemetery.  Family information states Samuel died of hydrophobia.  Note that Dr. Snow killed a rabid dog June 22, 1881.  Captain Manion was George D. Manion, an attorney who lived in the town of Kaufman (Beat No. One) in 1880.
