Daisy Abbey Ivy

"Rites Thursday for ex-teacher, nurse Daisy Ivy
Servies for Daisy Ivy of Dallas, a former teacher and nurse, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Seagoville.
Mrs. Ivy died Monday at Doctors Hospital in Dallas. She was 93.
She graduated from East Texas State University in the early 1920s. After graduation,
she devoted her time to raising her five children, said her daughter Marie Blandin of Mesquite.
Mrs. Ivy started teaching elementary school in Kaufman County in 1943, Ms. Blandin
said. After teaching, she trained as a vocational nurse at Baylor University Medical
Center in Dallas in the late 1940s. She later became a private duty nurse.
"She just felt that she had to be around people and things for people," Ms. Blandin said.
Mrs. Ivy retired from nursing in 1978 and spent her time reading and traveling, her
daughter said.
In addition to Ms. Blandin, survivors include daughters Jonnie Lee Collier of Kemp and
Carolyn Jean Wallace of Mesquite; son Harold F. Abbey of Dallas; 10 grandchildren;
and 13 great-grandchildren."
Daisy Ethel Thomas was the daughter of James Franklin Thomas and Dosha Rebecca
Hays and the sister of Ollie Anne Griffin. Her first husband was Clarence Edwin Abbey
died in Nov. 1968. She is no relation to me.
