PIONEER GONE
THE KEMP NEWS
Kemp, Kaufman County, Texas
June 21, 1922
Last Sunday at noon J. F. (Uncle Jimmie) Hooker "crossed over the river to
rest under the shade" with Robt. E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and the thousands
of Confederate soldiers with whom he fought during the Civil War. For some
time this good old man has been in bad health, and while his death has been
expected, it was indeed a shock to his loved ones and friends.
He was born in 1843 and was 80 years of age at the time of his death. He was
a member of the Presbyterian church and was truly a good man. He had reared a
large family in Kemp and was one of the old settlers of this locality. In his
passing, the town loses one of it's most familiar characters. His remains
were laid to rest in the Kemp cemetery Monday afternoon, Rev. R. F. Wilkins,
pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducting the funeral services.
