Sir, I was honorably discharged from that Regt upon certificate of perminent disability, but partially recovering. I responded to Genl Beauregard's call, and went to Cornith, where I served as an amateur in Genl Breckenridge's Corps until my health again failed. When I received a passport to return home with creditable endorsement from Genl's Breckenridge and Beauregard. I am exempt from the conscript service on account of Permanent Disability Organic disease of the heart and varicocele, also from the state service upon the grounds. I wish to go to Brownsville & Matamoras to purchase drugs etc and would ask you to procure me a passport or permit from Genl Smith for that purpose. Our country needs medicines. Please attend to this and write to me immediately. Very Respectfully, |
