The Terrell Fortner Family

Submitted by Bill Wilkinson junco.junction @ verizon.net

Terrell Fortner Family, 1910

This is a picture of the Terrell Fortner family, taken in late 1909 or 1910.

The family is listed in the 1910 census of Kaufman County, Justice Precinct #8, census supervisor's district 3, enumeration district 42, sheet numbers 18A (bottom of page) and 18B (top of page).

According to the census, they lived on/at "Forney x Porter's Bluff Road".  (And I would *LOVE* to be able to find out just where that was/is.)

From left to right, the people shown are (and with ages as given in the census):

Jesse Benjamin Fortner - 15
Richard Etoy Fortner (holding the gun) - 20
Charlie Jimanda Fortner - 11
William Terrell Fortner - 28
Opal Loraine Fortner (in arms) - 1 yr 1 month
Clyde Richard Fortner (toddler) - 2
Clennie Bell (nee Dill) Fortner - 20
Terrell Gray Fortner - 60
Sarah Ann (nee Ivy/Ivey) Fortner - 55

As you can see, the baby Opal certainly looks to be no older than 1 year or so.  And we know that the picture was not taken *after* 1910 because in December 1910 another child (Oral Fortner) was born to William and Clennie Bell.  Incidentally, Opal (the baby there) is still alive and in fairly good health in 2005.

We have several other pictures of the family that were surely taken in Kaufman County, including "first child" photos of Jesse (1918) and Richard (1915) with spouses.

Terrell and Sarah and various of their descendants are buried in Crandall City Cemetery (and are listed on the Kaufman Co. TXGenWeb site).  Other members of the "clan" are buried in other Kaufman County cemeteries.

You may note that there are several Ivy/Ivey marriages listed in Kaufman County TXGenWeb site, and most of them are related to Sarah Ann Ivy Fortner.

Anyone with interest in this family is invited to email me at Genealogy@JuncoJunction.com
