Mary Kelley Matney

This is Mary Montroy Kelley Matney - 1839-1899 - in the rose garden of her home in 1899, just a few weeks before her death.
She is buried at Kaufman City Cemetery.



FUNERAL NOTICE

The friends & acquaintances of Mrs. G H Graham are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of her mother, Mary A Matney, this afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Services will be conducted by Rev. S Thomas, in the home of George H Graham.
October 14, 1899.


Matney House

This was the home of Mary Montroy Kelley Matney.  It was built in 1888 and was on the southwest corner of 4th Street and Jefferson in Kaufman.

Mary and her husband John came to Texas in 1876 with their 2 daughters Johnie Matney & Stella Matney and her 2 sons, Edwin Kelley & George Kelley.  Mary & John owned a restrauant on the Kaufman square called "Matney's" for many years prior to his death and she operated this house as a Boarding house from 1890 until 1897.
