The patriarch and matriarch of the Knotts family of Kemp. The Knotts family have been long-time residents in and around Kemp, Texas. Albert Ross Knotts was born in 1873 in Alabama and died in 1956 in Kaufman County. He is buried in Kemp City Cemetery. His wife English Marvin (Gentry) Knotts was born 10 December, 1880 near Walnut Creek, Texas. She died 10 August 1976 in Athens, Texas and is buried in Kemp City Cemetery. Albert Ross Knotts was the son of William Henry Knotts and Dilla Ann (Stephenson) Knotts who were both born in Alabama and migrated to Arkansas and then to Texas. English Marvin (Gentry) Knotts was the daughter of William J. Gentry and Monterrey Indiana (Burke) Gentry, both pioneer citizens of Henderson County, Texas. ![]() This is a picture of Albert and English's two oldest daughters, my grandmother - Margaret Ann Knotts (1 May, 1901 - 17 March, 1992) and her older sister, Frieda Fay Knotts (28 September, 1899 - January 1986). Margaret lived most of her life in Malakoff, Texas and married William B. Payne, Jr., who was a pharmacist in Malakoff. Margaret (Knotts) Payne is buried beside her husband in the Malakoff City Cemetery. Frieda Fay lived in Dallas and Athens, Texas. She married Hamp Crabtree, a home builder. Frieda Fay (Knotts) Crabtree is buried beside her husband in the Athens City Cemetery. Margaret is on the left and Frieda is on the right in the photo. I do not know when the photograph was taken, but I would guess sometime around 1910. Updated April 13, 2003.
