The George A. Johnson Family, about 1899/1900
George A. (father), Una, Beulah, Joseph, Robert, Jennie O. (mother), Mabel

Above is a picture of the Dr. George A. Johnson Family, taken about 1900. George A. Johnson was born in Smith County, Texas in 1860 to Amelia Evaline Ayres Johnson and James Johnson.  Evaline and George are found on the 1870 census for Kaufman County.

Dr. George A. Johnson

George A. Johnson was a physician around the Abner area for many years.  He went to medical school at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

George married Jennie Osborne Boykin in 1888; Jennie was born in Kaufman County in 1870 to William L. Boykin and Martha Jane Jones Boykin.

George's mother, Amelia Evaline Ayres Johnson, is the daughter of Thomas Eli Ayres and his first wife, Caroline Wilson.  The Ayres family came to Kaufman County in the early 1850's; Thomas Eli, or Eli, as he was known, settled in Black Jack and is buried in Black Jack Cemetery.  Evaline and her husband ? Johnson came to Kaufman about the same time and several of her children were born here, including:  Helen C. Johnson Boggs, Emma, and George.  Her other children were William and possibly P. H. Johnson.  George and family, including Evaline, are on the 1900 Kaufman County census.  Evaline and or her daughter, Helen C. Boggs (she m. James A. Boggs), are buried in the Boggs plot in Kaufman City Cemetery.  (The census and birth records are rather sketchy, I can't find any information on Evaline's husband listed, and I can't seem to get the death records from the courthouse on Evaline or her daughter Helen).

Evaline Johnson

George and Jennie Johnson are buried in College Mound, along with her family the William Boykins.  William Boykins is listed on the list of Confederate Veterans buried in Kaufman County.  Click here to see a 1913 clipping from the Kaufman paper regarding George Johnson's Death.

Una Johnson Bradley was my Grandmother; the Bradleys were also residents of Kaufman County.  James T. and Amanda Bradley, my great-grandparents, are buried in Kaufman City Cemetery.
