W. Howard Grubbs

William Howard Grubbs was born in Kemp, Texas in May 1908.  He attended Kemp High School and was quarterback of the football team.  He won a scholarship to Texas Christian University and was All Southwest Conference Quarterback in 1929 and 1930.  He recieved his Bachelor and Masters Degrees.  Howard was head coach at Lufkin High School in 1931 through 1933 and returned to TCU as Freshman Coach in 1934.   He was a member of the TCU coaching staff when TCU played the inaugrural game in the Sugar Bowl and the Inaugurak game in the Cotton Bowl.  He was named Atheletic Director at TCU in 1936.   Howard was named Executive Secretary of The Southwest Conference and held the position until he retired.  He also served on various committees of the NCAA and as President of the Cotton Bowl Association.  He was named to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1967.  Howard passed away in Irving, Texas in 1986.
