Comments:After trying his hands at farming, my great great grandfather, Benjamin P. Fletcher packed up his family headed to Texas, in hopes to fullfill his dreams by working for the railroads. Arriving in Texas August 1882. Stopping Ennis, Ellis County long enough to bury one son, George A., and for his wife to give birth to another son, Henry Clay. There is an unknown family in Ellis that allow the Fletcher family to squat on their land for Jennie to give birth to their newest addition. In the meantime, this family also allowed the Fletcher family to bury their son George A. Fletcher in their cemetery. As soon as Henry was born the family moved onto to Kaufman County, were Ben began working for the railroads there. It was said that he was very strong man and could carry one railroad tie by himself. He caught pneumonia and died in the winter of 1889. Leaving his wife, pregnant and 5 living children. Jennie, about 2 weeks after giving birth to Winnie Lee Fletcher, caught yellow jaundice and died herself. Ida Jane Fletcher who married John Henry Klutts married 01 Oct 1899 took in all the children, her and John and raised them until they could make their own way. Charles P. Fletcher is the known child buried next to the parents in a small grave. My grandmother, daughter of Ben Franklin Fletcher, visited the cemetery there in Kaufman County last in about 1927. When she said the cemetery was not kept up. The fencing was laying on the ground in places, the weeds and brush was high, they nearly did not locate the unmarked graves of her fathers parents. They found whom they believed to be the graves, three of them, 2 large and 1 small near a tree. Through much effort the graves has not been located to this day. | |||
