The Terrell Times-Star J. F. Gilmore, the new county clerk was born July 21st 1854 in Pike County, Alabama. His father moved to Troy, Alabama, in 8165, where the family have since resided. J. F. Gilmore (Frank as he is familiarly know by his friends) moved to Greenville, Texas in February, 1873 and accepted a position as deputy county clerk of Hunt County under A. T. McDougall. In the fall of 1873 he resigned his position of bookkeeper for Jenkins, Harrison & Simmonds, also accepted the position of express agent at Terrell which he held for eleven years. And during that time was bookkeeper for Tullis & Rainey, W. B. Tullis & Co., Tullis & Bowen and for Frank Houston. He was also appointed public weigher by Gov. O. M. Roberts. In 1884 he engaged in the cattle business and five years experience in the west lost him what he had formerly accumulated. He returned to Terrell and re-engaged in cotton weighing. He is a thoroughly competent man for the place and will make the county an efficient county clerk. |
