Picture#1:
This is a building being log rolled or skidded to Mabank from Lawndale after the railroad came through, about 1900.

Picture#2:
This is the Mabank Train Depot built early 1900's.  The photo is labeled 1912.  Mabank was once Lawndale about a mile NE and the track ran on more level ground and thus Lawndale moved and relocated to what is now Mabank.

Picture#3:
This photo is idenified as surray--it is a gathering of Mabank people there to celebrate the new depot.

Picture#4:
This is the old Mabank School building.  It was built about 1902--but was torn down about 1921 because the bricks were bad.  It was replaced with what we now call Central Elementry.

Picture#5:
Mabank Main Street 1910 came form an old postcard, which was a way to post photos in the early days.

Picture#6:
This is main street Mabank about 1910 looking east.  Eubank Hardware is on the left, built in 1909.  And you can notice the wooden buildings on the right, they burned in 1921 or so, and that prompted the beginning of the Mabank Fire Department.  At the very end of the street is the old school which was built in 1902.

Picture#9:
West End Mabank is still there.  This is where the Matex Theater was, and the 2-story building on the right is where I lived up stairs over a grocery store.  There have been many different businesses in these building over the years.

Picture#10:
1st telephone office in 1918 was upstairs in the West End 2-story building until a fire and it then moved to another location.

Picture#11:
The old Mabank Banner office building is torn down now.  This photo features Thornton Jennings in overalls and Archie Hale.  Thornton was the publisher for many years.

Picture#12:
This is Lee Reid in his dry goods store before he went into the lumber yard business.  Notice the floor vent grates.  They were mainly used for old men to spit tobacco juice in.

Picture#13:
Old Ice House.

Picture#14:
The old Calaboose is one my favorite photos.  Shown is Clarence Mixon washing parts behind Hyde Tractor.  In background the house was an old telephone office.  Over his head is the old fire siren with station for fire truck in end of building.  And the old calaboose in the foreground on right--see the bars.  Photo taken Feb. '56.

Picture#15:
Drawing at Mabank--for several years during the 50's, Mabank held a merchants drawing for prize money.  Andrew Gibbs was the main leader shown in pickup and near him is Bufford Roberston, the town Marshall.  Photo taken Sept. '57.
