FORNEY.  A town of 1,000 inhabitants, located on the line of the T. & P.
Ry, in Kaufman county, 16 miles northwest of Kaufman, the judicial seat,
21 east of Dallas, and 244 northeast of Austin.  It dates its settlement
from 1873 and has Southern Methodist and Baptist churches, good schools,
a bank, 8 cotton gins, and a weekly newspaper, the Tribune.  Forney is
widely known for its hay and cotton products; over 20,000 tons of the
former are produced from the vast tracts of rich black lands in the
vicinity, thousands of tons being pressed in the fields and immediately
shipped to all southern points.  Corn, oats and other cereals do
exceedingly well, and considerable trading is also done in Bois d'Arc
