Covenant Presbyterian Church, Kaufman

   The Covenant Presbyterian Church in Kaufman was organized in July 1854 by Rev. Richard Overton Watkins.

   Rev. Dempsey William Broughton was the church's first pastor.  While living in Kaufman, Broughton also served as Chief Justice of the county and was instrumental in the organization of Trinity University in 1869, a church school belonging to the Presbyterian Church Synod of Texas.

  The Covenant United Presbyterian Church in Kaufman was built in 1877 and still stands and is active today.  It bears an official Texas Historical Marker.
