The College Mound Church, established in 1846, is the oldest organized church in Kaufman County.  The first church structure was made of logs and was built in 1845.  The log structure was replaced in 1865 by a frame building.  The frame church was replaced in 1897 by the building shown here.  The sanctuary, six pews deep, is still in use today.  The College Mound Cemetery is adjacent to the church.  "Decoration Day" which began in the 19th century to honor the dead by cleaning and decorating the graves and celebrating with dinner on the grounds, is still honored on the fourth Sunday in April at this church and cemetery today.
