The 3 acres the Peede Cemetery is situated on was purchased by M & I Jackson Properties, Ltd. in 1999. They are decendents of the Peedes and made the purchase just to see the graveyard will always be protected. This cemetery was once the vegetable garden of the pioneering Peede family who came to Kaufman County from London, England in a tall ship in 1849. When Dr. Ambrose Peede died his wife decided the best place to lay him to rest was on their land and in a place that could be easily tended, so he was the first interment in what was to become their family cemetery. The area surrounding this burial site was once known as Peede's Mill, named for a grist mill built and operated by Ambrose Peede's sons in the late 1800's. ![]() Enumeration: |
