The old Warsaw graveyard has not been in existence since the 1960's when someone removed all the tombstones that were located there. Until as late as 2000 there was evidence that persons were buried in the small 1 1/2 acre piece of wooded property. At that time there were several beds of iris, a few day lilies, a couple of wild rose bushes and rocks and stumps placed to mark graves, along with the waves across the land where graves had sunken in. Long-time residents of the area, like Billy Johnson, Walthina Culver & LQ Myles, remember the graveyard as being primarily a burial site for African-Americans, some of whom were once slaves. Some of the persons interred at Beck's Chapel were slave owners. However, there are possibly persons interred there of other races. Old Warsaw was located approximately 100 yards from the Beck's Chapel cemetery. Below is a map showing the location of the Old Warsaw Cemetery. ![]() There is no way to distinguish between the Unmarked Graves in Beck's Chapel and Old Warsaw Black Cemeteries. See the page for the list of Unmarked Graves in either the Old Warsaw Black or Beck's Chapel Cemeteries for graves that were possibly in this cemetery. |
