Alfred Moore's Chapel Cemetery

*Also called White's Prairie Cemetery  & Strip Cemetery
Kaufman County Texas

History:  Originally known as one of the few Indian Burial Grounds in the county, this was once a large cemetery, but part of it was covered
over when a fundamentalist church purchased the land and built a
sanctuary on top of some of the graves and over all of the Indian burial sites.  The Moor family migrated to the area from Tennessee in 1844 (according to the Moor tombstone) and they were on their way back to Sumner Co. Tennessee when their son, Alfred Moore Jr, became ill and died.  He is thought to be the first interment at the site.
