History: This site is also known as The Stover Family Cemetery, so named for Lorenzo D. Stover, who settled on the land and is listed on the 1850 Henderson Co TX Census (in an area that later became Kaufman County). Lorenzo Stover received the land through Mercer's Colony. There is only one tombstone remaining, that of Catherine Nichols Mason, wife of W. G. Mason. It is known, however, that there are several other interments at the site and; at one time there were many other tombstones. Local history says that a man who once owned the land, previous to the current owner, removed or destroyed the tombstones and disced the land for farming, so it is not known how this single grave marker has managed to still exist. There is a wooden frame built around and over the tombstone - it is not known who put the frame on the site, but it evidently was constructed to protect the grave and marker. ![]() The marker reads:
