Gray's Prairie Cemetery

Gray's Prairie Community
Kaufman County, Texas

History:  Probably one of the oldest burial sites in the entire county.
The grave of Dr. Allen is the second oldest known burial in Kaufman County marked with an inscribed tombstone - he died in 1850.  Some of the earliest pioneers to the area are buried here with death dates in the 1850's.

Condition:  Very bad - overgrown in briars and weeds, most tombstones are laying flat or broken.  Several sections of the old antique fencing have been damaged by falling trees or by vandals.  The entire area is covered in a blooming purple jasmine and shaded by towering pecan, oak and cedar trees.  A lovely place in need of some attention.
