This picture was taken sometime in the 1990's before the back room was torn down, also notice the tree beside it. It is no longer there either.	This is the Cottonwood log school house as it appears in 2002.

Named for Cottonwood Creek, which runs through the area.

Condition: This cemetery is very well kept.

In 1970 a Texas Historical Marker was erected at the cemetery. It reads:

Established in 1882 on land donated by settler J. W. Swayze for a church building, school house and cemetery. First grave was that of J. R. Swayze (1850-1882), a brother of the donor. Now enlarged to five acres, the cemetery includes acreage donated by Bessie Goodman from land of her ancestor, C. L. Tippett, as well as property given by J. A. Hugghins from Swayze. Both pioneers are buried here. The grounds are cared for by descendants and friends who have built fences and improved roads. Cemetery is also used by other neighboring communities.

This enumeration was done by Julie Smith Oliver in July 2002. Earlier enumerations were done by Terry Airheart in 1998 and Donald and Kathey Hunt in 1999. An attempt was made to list everyone by rows but it was impossible. The rows run into each other and break in many spots. If you have trouble locating one of the graves listed, e-mail Julie at julieo28 @ hotmail.com and she will try to give you an area of the grave. Do not ask for information on a grave that isn't listed. There are many unmarked graves that cannot be accounted for, making this an incomplete list. If you do not see your relative listed, then they are either in an unmarked grave or buried somewhere else.
