Have date born as
November 20, 1846 yet there is one Census says May 1854 and all the other
birthdates have been the same on those as others, another says abt. 1861,
another says 1848, and yet another says 1848-1849, so it is veery confusing as
to when he was actually born. After
looking at actual copy of death Certificate it days say birthdate is 11/20/1846
so I will use that date. 1846 would make
him 19 years older than Sallie. Was he
this much older? I wish I knew so I
could track him down before 1881 when he gets married to Sallie.

Opal B Springfield,
92, of Lacy-Lakeview died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 at a local hospital. Services will be at 2 pm Friday, August 29 at
Waco Memorial Mausoleum chapel with the Rev. Paul Fabiszewski officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial
North. Visitation with the family will
be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Aug. 28 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey 6101 Bosque Blvd.
Mrs. Springfield was
born Sept. 1, 1910. She grew up and
worked on the Satin Farms. She married
Victor Springfield in 1929 he preceded her in death in 1983. She retired from Owens Illinois Glass Plant
in 1964.
Her father; mother;
and sister; Margaret Stodghill also preceded her in death.
Survivors include
daughter, Martha Terry of Waco; granddaughters, Debra Kay Harris of Quannah,
Texas and Opal Scott of Kauffman, Texas; grandsons, James Harris Jr. and Mark
Terry of Waco; brother Alvin Howard Day of San Marcos; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Cad D. Day Dies at Age
of 83; Rites Saturday
Mr. Cad D Day of 2515
Morrow, died Thursday afternoon in a Waco Hopital. He was 83.
Funeral Services will
be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Wilkirson and Hatch Chapel, the Rev.
Noel V. Guice officiating, Burial will be in Waco Memorial Park.
Mr. Day was born at
Cedar Springs and moved to Eddy with his family as child. He was educated in Eddy schools and married
Miss Luna Ledbetter in 1914 at Mooresville.
Mr. Day farmed in
Falls County until 1944 and moved to San Benito where he farmed until 1954 when
he retired and moved to Waco.
He was a member of the
Gateway Baptist Church.
He apparently suffered
a stroke at his home Thursday afternoon and was taken to the hospital.
He is survived by his
wife; two daughters Mrs. Victor Springfield of 216 Cedar in Lakeview and Mrs.
Owen Stodghill of 308 Garden Drive; a son Alvin H Day of San Marcos; three
sisters Mrs. Cleotis Wilcox and Mrs Cleo Hargrove both of Eddy and Mrs Carrie
Eures of Austin; four brothers Carl Day of Eddy, Cecil Day of Kermit, Colman
Day of San Antonio, and Clarence Day of Temple.

Mrs. Thornhill, who
had lived in Eloy since 1940, died April 3 at Hoemako Cooperative Hospital in
Casa Grande. She was born June 8, 1900
in Waco, Tex.
She is survived by two
brothers, Newman Ledbetter and Gilmer Ledbetter, both of Corpus Christi, Texas
and three sisters, Pearl Utz, Roswell, N.M.; Luna Day, Waco, Tex.; Neddie
Jones, Eloy. She was preceded in death by
her husband Harvey Thornhill, two years ago.
According to other
records actual birthdate is June 8, 1899 not 1900 which fits with age 72 on
April 3, 1973. She was probably born in
one of the small towns outside of Waco that they lived in, Bruceville-Eddy most
likely.

information on the Thornhill family of Pinal and Gila Co., AZ. George and
Harvey Thornhill lived in Pinal and their parents Jim and Lucy Tressler
Thornhill moved from Montana to Gila about 1912. Any information would be

Bruce's theory is the
Harvey Thornhill called "Man" is possibly the son of one of the Logan
boys. Jim Thornhill and Harvey "Kid
Curry" Logan were part of the Wild Bunch with Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid.
It looks like if in
1904 he shows up in the school census but is not in the 1900 census. However,
according to a bio on Kid Curry Lucy was living with Kid Curry's brotherJohn
prior to marrying Jim Thornhil so may actually be Harvey's nephew and the son
of John Logan since he was born 1895-1897
and John was killed in 1896 so if born in 1895 or 1896 this works an 1897
birthdate does not.

left him,The Logans had their own place never lived with Jim Thornhill but knew

Mr. Thornhill was born
August 13, 1897 in Montana. He had been
doing ranch work in Arizona for 40 years.
A veteran of World War I, he resided at 526 So. Penn.
He is survived by his
widow, Callie Thornhill and a brother Bob Thornhill of El Paso, Tex.
Services were held
10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Funeral Home. Rev. Ennis Hill officiated. Burial was in Eloy Memorial Park.
Have seen Harvey
listed as being born 1895, 1896, 1897 through census and other records. Very confusing which is actually
accurate. Even the obit his age and
years do not match up.

Alvin H. Day of San
Marcos, passed away in Floresville on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at the age of
81. He was born in Chilton, TX, on Sept. 6, 1922, to Cad and Luna (Ledbetter)
Day.
Alvin owned and
operated the Riverside Grocery Store for 30 years. He raised cattle, was an
avid hunter and bowler, and coached Little League Baseball in San Marcos.
During World War II, Alvin served his country in the United States Navy.
His first wife,
Mildred Gomillion Day, preceded him in death. He is survived by his second
wife, June Day; daughter, Barbara Major and husband, Bill of San Marcos; six
sons, Melvin Day and wife, Shirley of Dallas, William Day and wife, Maria of
California, Dan Day and wife, Rochelle of Lytton Springs, Jimmy Day and wife, Lisa
of New Braunfels, Alvin Day, Jr. and Tandy Day of Austin; 10 grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren.
Family will received
friends Wednesday, April 28 at Pennington Funeral Home.
Graveside services
were conducted Thursday, April 29 at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale,
with Mr. Ross King officiating.

Jr.
HARLINGEN — Gilmer L.
Ledbetter, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at his residence Thursday evening.
He was born in Bruceville-Eddy, Texas on August 12, 1923 to Gilmer Ledbetter
Sr. and Minnie Henson. He graduated from Bruceville-Eddy High School and
attended college at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, Texas until
his senior year when he decided to join the Navy to support his country in
World War II.
G.L. Ledbetter, Jr.,
farmed and worked in agricultural business in the Rio Grande Valley from 1947
until 1990 "Gil" worked as a school bus driver of the U.S. Soil
Conservation Services, and became manager of Los Indios Gin Harlingen Grain
& Elevator, Edinburg Co-op, and Tropical Grain Co. He was former President
of the Texas Independent Cotton Ginners Association and the San Benito
Greyhounds Booster Club.
During his service he
met his wife of 59 years, Carmel Lion Ledbetter whom he met while stationed in
the Navy in New Orleans, La. "Gil" and Carmel raised two sons, Gilmer
Ledbetter III of Harlingen and Bobby Ledbetter of Edinburg.
"Gil" or
"Led" is also survived by two sisters, Sylvia "Sweetie" of
Grand Prairie, TX and Linda of Garland, TX; one brother, Melvin
"Sonny" of Hendersonville, TN and step-mother, Ocie Ledbetter of
Garland, TX; five grandchildren, Tammy Catlett, Jennifer Boeck, Alison
Ledbetter, Jacob Ledbetter and Joshua Ledbetter; three great grandchildren,
Blake and Bethany Boeck and Riley Catlett, also numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be
Don Uptegraph, Bruce Glasgow, Kevin Catlett, Walker Boeck, Claude McMillon and
David Hogue. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Walters, Jim Strickland, Gene
Magouirk and Buck Buchanan.
There will be
visitation held today (Sunday) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Henry Thomae
Funeral Home Chapel in San Benito. Chapel services will be held Monday at 10
a.m. at Henry Thomae Funeral Home, 701 N. Bowie, San Benito, with Rev. Gene
Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
