LECK, MINNIE MYRTLE EVANS
Services for Minnie Leck, 88, of Waco, a
resident of Gainesville Nursing Home, who
died Saturday morning, 23 April 1988, were held
at 11 am, Monday, 25 April, at Clifton
Funeral Home, with Dalton Graves, minister of
Clifton Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial was in Clifton Memorial Park. Daughter
of Lillie Etta Drake & Crockett Shelby
Evans, she was born 19 Jan. 1900, near Cayote
Community. She attended school at
Cayote & Clifton. She was raised on her parents
farm. According to her daughter,
Mrs. Leck was a "Daddy's Girl", who helped him
with the milking & caring of their
animals. When she was a teenager, her father
bought a house in Clifton, & because
of his declining helath, he rented the farm &
the familymoved to town. A long time
neighbor of Mrs. Leck, Cullen Robinson, now owns
& lives on the farm. When she
was 9 years old, Minnie started to play her
father's violin in secret, & when he found
out he helped her increase her knowledge of the
instrument. She played "by ear", &
played her violin on many occasins, inlcuding
the Dallas Fair when she was 12 years
old. She won a fiddler's contest at the July
4th Poole's Park around 1939, & has
played regularly with a group at the Sunset
Nursing Home in Nocona, TX since 1984.
She was married to Louis G. Leck of the Womack
community, 29 Sep. 1929, in
Meridian by Judge Word. She had one child by a
previous marriage. Louis &
Minnie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
in 1979. Mr. & Mrs. Leck lived
on several farms & ranches in Bosque & Hill
County, until he was called to military
service during WW II. When he returned, the
couple ran a little grocery store &
service station just past the Clifton Park.
They moved to Waco in 1951, living just
10 blocks from their daughter & family. Their
grandson was born in Waco in 1953.
The Lecks lived there 37 years, where she
worked at a lingerie factory & the
Greyhound bus station, & he worked for Clement
Grain Company. They were
active in the American Legion.

Uncle Mun Lester Passes Away in Iredell.
Mr. Lester is survived by his wife, 5children:
3 girls, 2 boys. M.M. Lester, 81, of
Iredell, a resident of the county for 46 years,
died Saturday morning, Jan. 9, at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. W.F. Musick, near
Iredell. Funeral services were held
from the Fisrt Baptist Church of Iredell, Sun.
afternoon at 2:30. Rev. H.D. Blair,
of Cisco, an old-time pastor of the deceased,
conducted the services.
Mr . Lester was born in Tennessee
January 26, 1851 and married Miss Mary
Cowger of M t . Vernon, Illinois, October 10,
1869. He came to Texas in 1885.
Uncle Mun, as most everyone called him, was well
known in Bosque County. He
was a faithful deacon in the Baptist church for
over thirty-five years and helped to
build several church houses in the county, as
well as to carry on the church work
over the county during his entire residence
here. He was at one time elected public
weigher of Bosque county. Uncle Mun has been
quite feeble for sometime but was
able to go about until seven weeks ago, when he
suffered a partial stroke of paralysis.
Since that time until he passed away last
Saturday morning, he gradually grew
worse until his old worn-out body could stand no
more, and the good Lord called
him to rest. Mr. Lester is survived by his
wife, 5 children, 3 girls & 2 bos , 25
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, & 2
brothers, H.N. Lester of Meridian and
J.F. Lester of Hico, all of whom were present
except three grandchildren, 5
great-grandchildren, & his brother, J.F. Lester,
who is in very poor health. His
own children are, A.H. Lester of Breckenridge,
A.W. Lester of Ranger, Mrs. H.E.
Jordan of Meridian, Mrs. W.D. Spencer of
Breckenridge and Mrs W.F. Musick of
Iredell. The Tribune joins friends of deceased
over this county in extending sympathy.
LESTER, M.M., Mrs.--Joy
DAVIS
Mrs. M.M. Lester was born March 2, 1853 being 85 years and 23
days oldwhen she
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.D. Spencer at
Breckenridge, Friday,
March 25. She was married to M.M. Lester over 60 years ago. To
this union 5
children were born 2 sons; A.H. Lester, of Breckenridge, A.H.
Lester of Kilgore;
3 daughters, Mrs. W.F. Musick of Iredell, Mrs. Homer Jordan of
Meridian and Mrs
W.D. Spencer of Breckenridge. She came with her husband & 3
children to Texas
53 years ago. She has lived near Spring Creek and Iredell most
of the time. Since
the death of her husband 6 years ago she has made her home with
one of her
daughters, Mrs. Homer Jordan near Meridian. At the time of her
death she was
visiting a son and daughter in Breckenridge. She was converted
and joined the
Baptist church in early life and lived a devoted Christian life
to the end. She was
certainly a good woman and did a great deal of good and no
doubt in the least, that
her good works do follow her. Mrs. Lester is now at rest. She
lived an active life
for one of her age until 2 or 3 days before her death. Every
thing was done for her
that could be done. The funeral was held at the Baptist church
at Iredell, conducted
by Rev. H.D. Blair and Rev. T.C. Jordan in the presence of a
host of relatives and
friends. Both preachers gave a beautiful tribute to her
memory. The floral offerings
were large and beautiful. Some of her granddaughters acted as
flower girls & 6 of
her grandsons were pall bearers. The remains were brought in
Friday night and
taken to the home of her granddaughter Mrs. Olin Brantley.
Interment was in the
Riverside cemetery beside her husband. Besides the 25
grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends,
she leaves one sister
Mrs. John Sursa. All of the 5 children and her sister were at
the funeral.
Out-of-town relatives and friends were from Kilgore,
Breckenridge, Meridian,
Hico, Vernon, Ft. Worth, Ranger, Glen Rose and Grandfield,
Oklahoma. Mrs.
Lester leaves a host of friends here who extend their sympathy
to the bereaved
relatives. She is gone from us but not forgotten.

Mr. Levi (Buddy) Lewis, 78, of Morgan died
Monday, December 23, at a Meridian
nursing home. He was born January 21, 1924 in
Ben Franklin, son of John Franklin
and Lillie Bridges Lewis. He grew up in Gilmer
where he attended school. He
worked in the CCC camp when he was 15 and worked
on the construction of Tyler
State Park. He moved to South Texas when he was
18 and entered the Marine Corp.
He married Louise Scott May 27, 1944 in Velasco.
He served two tours of duty with
the Marines during World War II and the Korean
Conflict. He worked for Dow Chemical
for over 15 years and then worked in
construction until retiring in February 1986. He
moved to Hillsboro in 1975 and to Lake Whitney
in 1986. He was a member of Cedar
Shores Baptist Church, where he served as a
deacon for many years, and a member
of IBEW Local Union 716 in Houston. He was
preceded in death by his sister,
Louise Sorelle, in 1998. Survivors include: his
wife; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Donnie A. Lewis and wife, Evelyn, of Texarkana,
and Steve Lewis and wife, Sunzera,
of Whitney; one daughter, Sue Balan and her
daughters, Bindu and Sindu; nine grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services
were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December
26, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors
Chapel in Whitney with Reverend
Kenneth James officiating. Interment followed at
Hillcrest Garden of Memory near
Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to Cedar Shores

Graveside and burial services for Mrs. Janie
Gloretta (Sosebee) McCann, 31, of
Dallas will be at 2:00 p.m. today in Resthaven
Memorial Park here with the Rev.
Murray Brewer officiating. The body will remain
from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. today at Resthaven-Singleton-Wilson Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCann died at her home in Dallas
on Thursday, August 21, 1975 at 6:35 p.m.
following a lengthy illness. Mrs. McCann
was born October 17, 1943 in Lubbock and lived
in Dallas for the past two years.
Before her illness, she was a keypunch operator
for the J. C. Penny Company in Dallas.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Mae
McCann; a son Timmy Dwayne McCann; her mother
and step-father, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Dyer of Dallas; a brother, Donny
Arymol Sosebee of Dallas; and her
grandmother, Dorothy Wilbanks of Dallas.

Mae (Kurklin) Sosebee,
granddaughter of John Franklin and Mary Florence

Frances Metcalf, 74, of Joshua, died Sunday
afternoon, 29 Aug 1982 in St.
Joseph Hospital, Ft. Worth, after an extended
illness. Services were held
Wednesday afternoon, Sep. 1, at Brister-Lawson
Funeral Home Chapel in
Meridian, with Rev. Joe Lee of Morgan
officiating. Burial was in the Green
Acres Memorial Cemetery in Cleburne. Born 1 Nov
1907 in Rio Vista, to the
late Frank & Nancy Weston Ryals, she moved to
Bosque County as a small
child & settled in the Steiner & Kopperl areas,
where she was raised. She
married Fred Metcalf on 17 Oct 1929, in
Kopperl. Frances was a former
resident of hIll County, & Ft. worht & had live
in Joshua for th epast 18 years.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors: her husband,
Fred Metcalf of Joshuea; daughter, Mrs. Harold
(Juanita) Ballinger of Joshua;

MOORE, MELVIN BRETT
Services for Melvin moore, 35, of Benton, were
held at 3 pm Friday, May 6
in Clifton, with Rev. John Austin of Immanuel
Lutheran Church officiating.
Mr. Moore died in Benton, Wednesday, May 4,
1988. Burial was in Clifton
Cemetery. Melvin was born 13 May 1952 in
Clifton to William M. & Frances
Lanehart Moore. He went to Silver City High
School in New Mexico.,
where he graduated in 1970. He then attended
Western New Mexico State
University, in Silver City NM from 1970-1974.
He was employed by
Prentiss Properties of Dallas, as an engineer.
He served in the US Air Force
for 4 years, during which time he was an air
conditioning specialist on missle
sites. His hobbies were fishing & camping.

Monday at his home. He was 75. Funeral will be

Musick was born in Gentry Mill and lived in
Iredell since 1978. He worked in
the construction business. He was an Army

MYERS, WILLIAM MILLS--Lola

William Mills Myers was born at Montgomery,
Alabama, on August 13, 1857,
and died at Portland, San Patricio County,
Texas, on Friday night, October 4,
1935, at the age of 78 years. Special funeral
services were held at Sinton, twenty
miles north of Portland, on Saturday afternoon
at 3:00 o'clock. Rev. F. P. Bishop,
pastor of the Sinton church presiding. Rev. M.
H. Keen, pastor of the Portland
Methodist Church, gave the funeral address. He
was also assisted by Rev.
W. S. Highsmith and Rev. J. E. Lovett, pastors
of the Taft and Corpus Christi
South Bluff Methodist Churches, respectively.
Friends from Portland, Corpus
Christ, San Antonio, Brownsville, Taft, and
other cities joined the large assemblage
of old friends of Sinton and community in paying
a last tribute of respect to the
memory of a good man and former citizen. Mr.
Myers, universally known and
lovingly called "Uncle Billy," had aided in
building the church in which these
services were held and a memorial window stands
a memorial to his love and
loyalty to his church while a member there. The
funeral party left Sinton at 5:00
o'clock and drove to San Antonio where they
spent the night and came on here
the next day, arriving late Sunday night. A
number of friends awaited them at the
Methodist Church. The casket was placed near
the altar and a vigil kept by friends
during the remainder of the night. Funeral
services were conducted on Monday
morning at 10:00 o'clock in the church he helped
to build more than 27 years ago.
Rev. R. W. Nation, local pastor, was in charge
of the services, and Mrs. L. R.
Whiteley directed the music. Dr. E. B. Hawk,
now dean of Theology at Southern
Methodist University, Dallas, and former pastor
here during the years of 1909-1910,
and a devoted friend of Mr. Myers, delivered the
sermon based on the 14th
chapter of the gospel of John. With tenderness
and great understanding he told
of his association with and lover for "Uncle
Billy," and bore testimony to his
beautiful spirit and undying fidelity to Christ
and His church. A more eloquent
funeral address was never in this city. Rev. O.
C. Crow, pastor of the First
Methodist Church in Brownsville, and a
son-in-law of the deceased, spoke briefly
in tribute to the life and character of "the man
I loved as I loved no other man
except my own father who died three weeks
before. The floral offerings, which
were beautiful, were banked high along the
chancel and about the casket and
spoke in silent but in beautiful eloquence of
the high esteem in which Mr. Myers
was held by the hundreds of people of this and
other sections of the state.
The remains were laid to rest in the family plat
in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Part 2
Mr. Myers was married three times. His first
wife, Miss Lola McKissack to
whom he was married in September, 1881. died
April 15, 1905. Four children
were born to this union, all of whom survive, as
follows: Linna, Now Mrs. O.C.
Crow of Brownsville; William M. Myers, Jr., Joe
Allen Myers and Luty, now
Mrs. Lola M. Crow, the latter three of Sinton.
All were present at the funeral.
There are also seven grandchildren. In July,
1906, Mr. Myers was married to
Miss Anna McKissack, a sister of his former
wife. She died in November, 1910.
On July 23, 1912, he was married to Miss Lillie
Mayfield, who survives him
and was present with his children at the
memorial services. Mr. Myers made
his home in Waco from 1881 to 1885. In Walnut
Springs 1885 to 1913. In the
Sinton community 1913 to 1926, and in Portland
from 1926 until his death.
He spent his entire active life in railroad
service, beginning as a "water boy"
carrying water for the shopmen in Hearne and
later as a fireman on switch
engines, finally through the line of training as
engineer on freight trains to his place
of trust as a passenger engineer, which position
he held and honored for more
than 35 years, a total service of 48 years spent
as an employee of the H. & T. C.,
The Texas Central and M-K-T lines, "Uncle Billy"
was not only a man of great
integrity, dependability and honor, but a deeply
religious man as well. He united
with the Methodist Church in Walnut Springs more
than 46 years ago and has
been true to every tenet of his church to the
day of translation. He organized a
Sunday School class here composed of his fellow
railroad men, and was president
of the class for several years. He was Sunday
School superintendent at Portland
for a number of years and was always a faithful
contributor to the financial
program of the church. He was known far and
wide as a "praying engineer" who
knelt in his cab and prayed for divine guidance
and protection before starting
each passenger run. The story is told of his
influence to even the humble porters,
one of whom used to kneel on the outside of the
cam and pray as "Uncle Billy"
was praying inside. A remarkable fact is
recorded showing that he had only two
serious accidents during his long service of
almost half a century. On the eight
children, five sons and tree daughters,
composing his father' s family, only one
sister and a brother survive his, as follows:

Mr. Noah F. Myres, 75, of Hillsboro died
Thursday, March 1, at his
residence. He was born December 23, 1914 in
Bosque County, son of Fred and
Mary Weehunt Myres. He married Martha Mag Crist
August 8, 1936 and she
preceded him in death May 18, 1972. He later
married Helen Fiew Benton
February 1, 1974. He was a Baptist and a
retired security guard for Harris
Electric Company. Survivors include: his wife;
one stepdaughter, Elizabeth
Jo Eastlund of California; four stepsons,
William Harold (Buddy) Benton of
California, Donald R. Benton of Waco, James A.
Benton of Pennsylvania and
Richard L. Benton of El Paso; a number of nieces
and nephews; 18
stepgrandchildren; and 11 great
stepgrandchildren. Funeral services held at
2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Marshall and
Marshall Funeral Home Chapel in
Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Owens officiating.
Burial was at Peoria.

A.C. Nivin, 87, of Meridian, who died Tuesday
morning, 26 April 1988, at
Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation in Clifotn,
after an illnness of 2 weeks.
Services were hled Friday, 29 April at 2 pm in
Meridian First United Methodist
Church with Rev. Bill Reed officiating./ Burial
was in Meridian Cemetery, with
Lawson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Born 28 Sep. 1900 in Morgan,
he was the son of the late Silas & Nancy Harris
Nivin. He was rasied in Dyersville
Community of Bosque County. He married Mary
Spitzer on 15 March 1925
in Meridian. They moved to Meridian in 1936, &
settled on their farm just north
of Meridian, where he worked as a farmer,
rancher, & was also in the real estate
business. He served 2 terms on the Meridian
school board, & was a member
of the Methodist Church. He was preceded in
death by a son, A.C. Nivin, Jr.
in 1941. Memorials may be made to the Meridian
First United Methodist
Church or to North Bosque Volunteer EM.S. in
Meridian. Survivors: his wife,
Mary Nivin of Meridian; 2 daughters: Violet
Tabler of Clifotn, & Joyce

OLSON, MARTIN J.
Martin J. Olson 92 of Clifton died in the
Lutheran Sunset Home, Saturday, December
11,1971 following a long illness. He was a
brother of Mrs .J.L. Brown of this
city. Mr. Olson a native of Norse, was a
retired farmer. He had made his
home at the Sunset Home in Clifton a number of
years. Funeral services were
held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Our
Savior's Lutheran church at Norse.
Pastor Albert Petrich officiated, and burial was
in the Norse cemetery.
Mr. Olson is survived by five sons, Charles
Olson of Waco, Emory Olson of
Valley Mills, Johnny Olson of Burleson,Jeff
Olson of Bellmead and Oscar
Olson of Dallas; one daughter Mrs. Anna Laman of
Dallas; one step son Oren
Pierson of Seminole; one step-daughter Mrs.

Heart Attack Fatal To A. O. Patterson At Home
Near Here
Died at his home, near Meridian, Texas,
Saturday, August 7, 1943, at 12:30
o'clock p.m. Mr. Artis Otto Patterson, age 60
years, 8 months and 21 days.
Funeral services were held in the Meridian
Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon,
August 10 at 5 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.
Milford Howell, pastor, who
paid a beautiful tribute to the membory of
deceased. Interment was in Meridian
Cemetery. Deceased by (sic) born at Eden,
Alabama, November 16, 1882
and was the son of the late W. F. (William
Fields "Billy) and Nettie R. (Mary
Antony ROYAL) Patterson and came to Texas with
his parents in 1895 and
lived in Bosque County for 47 years and for more
than 30 years near Meridian.
At an early age he was converted and joined the
Baptist Church. He married
Miss Gertrude Mobley August 30, 1902 and to this
union were born eight
children -- three girls and five boys as
follows: Mrs. Lula Nystel, Roscoe
William and Otto Patterson of Meridian; Mrs
Orean Smith of Beaumont;
Eulan Patterson, of the Armed Forces, stationed
at Myrtle Beach S.C.; Mrs.
Dewey Wellborn, of Brown wood and Leslie
Patterson, of Cleburne, all of
whom survive him, his first wife haveing
preceded him in death in 1933. In
the year 1934, he was united in marriage to Mrs.
May Mobley and he is also
survived by her and four step-daughters; Mrs.

Dallas. He is also survived by four sisters and
three brothers; Mrs. Lela Wright,
of Meridian; Mrs. Lucy Russell and Mrs. Ida
Bellan, of Ft. Worth; Mrs. Maggie
Gann, of Waco; Dewey and Willie Patterson, of
Meridian, and R. Y. Patterson,
of Iredell; also 31 grandchildren. All the
children, brothers and and sisters were
present at the funeral. Mr. Patterson had been
in failing health for some time
and died after a short illness of heart
failure. He was a very devoted husband
and father and at all times under all
circumstances has walked in the well beaten
path of righteousness and when full conscious
that he was nearing the last of
hsi earth, he offered a prayer to this Savior
and comforting words to his family,
assurinng them that he was ready to meet his
lord.
The Tribune joins in extending sympathy to the
bereaved family and loved ones.

Mr. Artis Otto Patterson, age 60 years, 8 months

Mrs. A. O. Patterson Is Claimed by Death
Mrs. Elizabeth Gertrude Patterson was born Nov.
27, 1888 in Grimes county, and
moved to Limestone county with her parents when
4 or 5 years old, and lived
there until 1902. She was married to A. O.
Patterson and moved to Bosque
county. She departed this life Friday morning,
Aug, 4, 1933 at 1:30 o'clock at
the age of 44 years 8 months and seven days.
She was converted in the latter
part of 1902, and joined the Baptist church at
Iredell, and lived a Christian life
until her Savior called her home. She had been
a sufferer six and a half years,
being operated upon a (sic) that time. and had
never been well since but she bor
her suffering with patience, was loving and kind
to all. She was a true loving
wife and mother, and all who knew her loved and
respected her. She had made
remarks several times in the last year that she
couldn't live long in her condition,
but always said she was ready to go when God
called. Everything that her loved
one and friends could do was done for her, but
God said, Come, and He called
her home. She will be greatly missed. There is
a vacant place in her home that
can't be field, but God knows best. It was his
will to call her home to rest, and
we know she is only asleep in Jesus. May God's
hand guide her loved ones,
and help them to be ready to go to meet her when
he calls. Weep not, loved
ones, for she is at rest and only asleep in
Jesus. She is survived by her husband,
O. A. Patterson, and eight children: Mrs. O. J.
Neystel, Mrs. Jake Smith, Mrs.
Nettie Wilburn, Eulan, Otto and Lestie (sic), of
Meridian; Roscoe and William,
of Clifton; one sister, Mrs. Eva Murphy of
Mexia; a half-sister, Mrs. Willie
Murphy of Grosbeck, and a half-brother, Jim

Graveside funeral services for Clarence R.
Petty, 86, of Meridian, were held
Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in the Morgan Cemetery,
the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating.
Petty died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in a Clifton
hospital after an extended
illness. He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Belton, a
son of the late Levi H. and Mary
Jane Cantrell Petty, r. He had lived most of his
life in Bosque County, where he
worked on ranches and cut cedar posts. He served
with the U.S. Marine Corps in
World War II. He was affiliated with the Baptist
Church. Survivors include two
daughters, Virginia Ratliff of Clifton, and
Debbie Caughron of Granbury; two
sons, Russell Petty, Sr. of Meridian, and
Richard Petty of Cranfills Gap; two
sisters, Marthie Renfro of Houston, and Mertel
Hoggett of Rising Star; two
brothers, C.C. Petty of Turnersville, and Levi
Petty of California; 33
grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; 29
great-great-grandchildren; and a
number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
friends. Pallbearers were
Scott Caughron, Russell Petty, Jr., Jimmy
Ratliff, Charles Williams,
Clifton Hinds, and Jeff Ratliff.
Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, was in charge of
arrangements.

O.A. Pollard (O.C.), who was adjudged insane
some time ago and who has been
confined in jail here on account of not having
room at the asylum, died on last
Sunday morning and was buried at Greenwade
Crossing.

Mrs. Lucinda Pollard, 84, died at her home in
Walling Bend Wednesday, May
6, 1936. She was born in Rusk County, Texas July
21, 1851. Funeral services
were to be held at the Walling Bend Cemetery at
4 o'clock Thursday afternoon
with Claude Scruggs in charge of arrangements
and Tom Weeks conducting
the service. Interment was to be in Walling
Bend Cemetery.

1919, of influenza-pneumonia. Burial was in
Scrutchfiel Cemetery, Mon.
Jan. 6. The funeral services were conducted by
Rev. James F. Hardie, pastor
of the Presbyterian Church of Taylor, assisted
by Rev. Ernest Sansom,
pastor of the Presbyterian Church here. George
was the oldest living son
of Mr. & Mrs. Tom M. Pool, well known prominent
citizens of our community.
George is survived by hiw wife & 8 children; 2
brothers: W.C. Pool of Clifton,
and Major Herbert M. Pool stationed in Columbus,
GA (US Army); 3 sisters,
Mrs. Iva Torrence and Miss Mayde Pool of this
community, & Mrs. Tessie
Nabors of Oklahoma. George died in the home
where he was born,
homestead of Tom M. Pool. This is also where he
settled when he married
& which property has been in the Pool family
more than 60 years.

for Mrs. Inez Reed, 91
Funeral services for Mrs. Inez Reed, 91, were
held Sunday afternoon at 3
o'clock in the Iredell Church of Christ,
conducted by Bro. T.E. Wood and
Bro. T.R. Beck. Burial was in the New Iredell
Cemetery. Mrs. Reed
passed away Thursday, Sept. 21 in the Hico City
Hospital. She was the
daughter of S.E. and Betty E. Lindsey Blair,
Sr. She made her home in Hico
for the past two years, but prior to that time
was a long-time resident of
Iredell. Mrs. Reed was a member of the Iredell
Church of Christ. Survivors
include five daughters, Mrs. R.F. Howard of
Iredell, Mrs Opal Reed of Big
Bear, Calif., Mrs Doris Luna of Williams, Ariz.,
Mrs Ruby Unger of Big
Spring, and Mrs. Lola Bennett of Gorman; three

Elma Reesing, 91, of Cranfills Gap, died
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1988, at a
Clifton nursing home. Services will be held at
11 am, Friday, at St. Olaf
Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap, with the Rev.
Mark Vinciguerra officiating.
Burial was at the St. Olaf Cemetery in
Cranfills Gap. Mrs. Reesing was
born Dec 6, 1896, in Cranfills Gap. She was a
homemaker and a Lutheran.
She was married to Otto Reesing. He died Jan.
7, 1974. Survivors
include 2 sons: Harlan Reesing of Los Angeles,
CA, and John Reesing
of Austin; 2 daughters: Mrs. Evely Smith of
Cranfills Gap, and Mrs.
Martha Morgan of Dallas; 2 sisters: Mrs. Sadie
Knudson of Clifton,

De Ett Sosebee Rose was the daughter of Walter Robert Sosebee

Lottie Mae Overton; granddaughter of George Washington Sosebee

Alice Catherine Pierce. George Washington lived near Walling
Bend (under
Lake Whitney). The cliff at Soldier's (Sosebee's) Bluff was
named after him.

Mrs. De Ett Sosebee Rose, 81, of Fort Worth died Saturday,
January 26. She was
born May 13, 1920 in Meridian, daughter of Walter Robert and
Lottie Mae Overton
Sosebee. She married Tolbert Nelson Rose September 12, 1936 in
Whitney and he
preceded her in death September 22, 1960. She was a long-time
employee of
Monnig's Department Store. Survivors include: three children and
their spouses,
Jetty Dean Rose and wife, Norma, of Burleson, JoAnn Roark and
husband, Bob,
of Crowley and Betty Miller and husband, Ray, of Joshua.
Funeral services were held at Marshall and Marshall Funeral
Directors Chapel
in Whitney Sunday, January 27, with burial at Whitney Memorial
Cemetery.

Mr. John Robert Rowe, 80, of Laguna Park died
Friday, March 21, at his
residence. He was born February 18, 1923 in Fort
Graham in Hill County,
son of the late Lennis Marshall and Hila Ann
Earl Rowe. He had been a
resident of Whitney since 1962. A Navy veteran
of World War II, he was
em-ployed by the Corps of Engineers in Waco and
at Lake Whitney for 30 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church
of Clifton. He married
Flossie Nell Boiles December 30, 1960 in Waco.
He was preceded in death
by seven brothers. Survivors include: his wife;
one son, John David Rowe
of Boca Raton, Florida; one daughter, Lisa Smith
and husband, Kevin, of
Spring; three sisters, Marie Carmichael and
Autria Riddle, both of Hillsboro
and Adeline Dennis of Smith Bend; and two
grandchildren. Funeral services
were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at
Marshall and Marshall Funeral
Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Tom Beaty
officiating Burial was
at Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery in Bosque
County. Memorials may
